Qin Kwan got off his plane at Schiphol in The Netherlands. Exclusively invited by CCLS Tec to attend an international software conference, he traveled with a private chauffeur. Qin was a protege prince of Chongqing-based financial software solutions company Quang FT. Rising to stardom after graduating from Beijing University with a Master in Software Engineering.

Laurens Klein received Qin at the triumphant 400 square meters CCLS Tec booth. He was the EMEA Sales Manager and invited Qin over to a meeting room to have a Dutch wunderkind present a demo for new high-frequency trading software. After one and a half-hour of talks, Qin was chauffeured to their Zuidas office and given a tour. In the evening, Qin visited the Enigma club where girls were present. Qin had never slept with a Dutch girl before, but that night in his hotel room surely was the first time. The next day, Qin got on a plane back to Chongqing.

Two days later the greatest calamity ever struck Quang FT. One that offset their inevitable bankruptcy. It all started with a flash drive the naive Qin had picked up in a goodie bag in Amsterdam. He curiously plugged the seemingly empty flash drive into a terminal. This is what later became known as “terminal zero”. The worm took it from there. The Stuxnet-based worm infected hundreds and thousands of machines on the Quang intranet within hours. Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Beijing, Shanghai. They went down one by one.

There was nothing that could be done. Quang FT lost millions of dollars every day. The board watched paralyzed as they saw their empire fall. Nobody ever discovered what happened. He lost his job in layoffs two years later. The company never recovered.
