The Snake and the Turtle

“What happen to Paper Fan?!” Peter Fong yells to Big Koi. “I don know, meng” he replies. “Don fuckin bullshit me, mothafucka. I nee to do everything?” — “Thas our fourth ah kung.” Jimmy Lai notes. Peter shakes his head, ice-bearing behind the Cantonese take-out. “They found him dead in the street. Fuckin junkie.” Jimmy tokes from his American Spirit. “Guy never called me back. I went ta sleep.” Peter directs his gaze at Big Koi. “You nee to step up harder! They think you a facking joke.” — “Thas not how you run things reliably.” Peter turns his back. “Reliable? RELIABLE?” He wafts a hand furiously. “It don matter. People are facking unreliable nowadays.” Jimmy tokes from his cigarette. The atmosphere is cutting. Peter walks it off. “Yeuh”-- Peter adds. “All I facking hear is trouble from this city.” His eyes trail to Jimmy. “Only dope an party aroun hea.” Big Koi walks up. “You know, is when you around this shit long enough. People try things. But is a code to stay away from our own product, yeuh?” Peter walks to Big Koi. “You nee to put a grip on things, guy. We got a fackin op moving in from Arizona. And if we don meet goals they gonna come fa us. If you don’t fix things, I gonna move in.” Big Koi looks at Peter. Peter looks back at Big Koi. “I ain gonna let my ass get move to New York just cause some red pole lost his touch.”
